Old Soul

Last night C. and I went to the James Taylor-Carole King concert that was in town.  It was awesome.  Absolutely Awesome.

…well, other than the fact that she didn’t sing Now & Forever which made me sad, but was probably a good thing since I would have cried like a baby.  And who wants to sit next to the weird crying lady at a concert?  I sat beside one last night–she cried every time James Taylor sang–and it wasn’t pretty.  {Most people may not know that one–though I know all my UGA DeltaGams do.}

On the way to the car C. brought up the last three concerts we’ve went to:

  • Van Morrison
  • The Temptations
  • Sweet Baby James + Carole

And it hit me.  I’m getting old.  Or I turned old early.  Or perhaps I was born old.

Sure, the average person going to these concerts is 60+, but I had never realized it ’til last night.  {And yes, there are people there our age too…well, except at The Temptations where we were the youngest by a good twenty years}

Carole King was talking at some point about remembering the 60s and then said, ‘And now I’m in a whole ‘nother type of 60s!’ (referring to their age)

Oh.

And then I started thinking about what radio station is on in my car 90% of the time.  I don’t know why, but I’m embarrassed to admit it, but I will for you, dear friends.  It’s the oldies channel.  Yes, yes, I listen to more oldies than my other mother and father who grew up during the time!  Lady Gaga?  No thanks.  Justin Bieber? HA! Give me the Shirelles!  Or Three Dog Night.  Or Gladys Knight and the Pips.

So, there you have it: not only do I live in a {very} old house with {mostly} very old things that I collect, but I listen to old music.  Hmmmmm, I wonder what that says about me?

    I think it’s great Nat! I would have LOVED to go see James Taylor! I have an old soul too and I love it! Frank Sinatra, Michael Buble, classic rock! I would rather have that any day than these current bands!
    Glad y’all had fun!

    I’m right there with you. I was very upset when the last oldies station in my listening area kicked the bucket. I will take the Monkess over any other music, any day!

    The “newest” music that I can honestly say I like it Billy Joel, or maybe Huey Lewis and the News. Keep in mind that I’m 26, by the way! From one old soul to another!
